Medicare Rebates

Due to renewed interest in supporting mental health, psychology is now eligible to receive part Medicare rebates for a range of issues.

To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you will need to see your GP to fill out a Mental Health Care Plan. Perth Psychologists are equipped to directly process your Medicare rebate straight back into your account after your appointment.

The rebate for a general psychologist is $96.65 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Can I use my Private Health Insurance for my appointments?

Most health insurers now offer a partial rebate for Perth Psychologists. If you choose to go private, it is good to check with your private health fund first.

If you are covered, we can email you your receipt straight after the session, which you can use to receive your rebate.

What payment options are available at Perth Psychologists?
Payments are billed through our secure online system by credit card, or at reception at the end of each session (or bank transfer, if no credit card). If you have a GP referral and a Mental Health Care Plan, please give this to your psychologist, so we can process your rebate. If you have private health cover, we can send you a receipt to claim from your health fund. Please note that Medicare and some insurance companies will not cover fees for cancellations and missed appointments, which will be charged to you at the standard rates.
Is what I discuss with the psychologist confidential?

Counselling sessions are confidential and access to your information is limited to psychologists and admin staff who manage the practice according to the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics guidelines. In rare circumstances, psychologists may need to breach confidentiality, if required to prevent a harmful action that would cause injury to their client or some other person, or if subpoenaed by the courts in legal cases. If such an unlikely circumstance should arise, psychologists, wherever possible, discuss this with their clients before taking any action.

What is the Perth Psychologists Cancellation Policy?
At Perth Psychologists we have a strict non-negotiable cancellation policy (unless you provide a medical certificate), as we are often fully booked and your appointment could be used by someone else.

Missed appointments, where no notice is given, are charged at 100% of the appointment fee.

Cancelled and rescheduled appointments, where less than 24 hours' notice is given, are charged at 50% of the appointment fee.
How long does a psychology session last for?

Standard counselling sessions are 50-60 minutes.

Certain treatment modalities, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), may require a 90-minute appointment.
